AABIP Senior Methodologist

General Description:

The American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP) seeks a senior methodologist (SM) with clinical guideline development experience and specific methodology training background to direct and supervise a guideline methodology team.

Term:
1 year, with option for renewal.

Expectations:
Direct involvement and oversight of AABIP methodology team leading to production of 1-3 guideline documents over a 12-24 month period.

Background:
The AABIP guideline oversight committee (GOC) is dedicated to cultivating and producing evidence-based, evidence-informed, and/or expert opinion-supported guidance relevant to the AABIP community.

The GOC is composed of a chair and co-chair, two junior methodologists (JM), and several members with varying guideline development experience.

Guideline projects are vetted and selected by the GOC, which meets monthly to assess progress of ongoing projects. Guideline selection carefully factors topic relevance, impact, and feasibility within a reasonable timeframe.

Specific senior methodologist duties:
  1. Oversee and supervise all active AABIP guideline projects during the employment term (typically 1-3 projects), assisted by 2 JMs.
  2. Direct and contribute to all aspects of guideline development, in collaboration with the leadership team of each project. These include panel and working group selection, PICO selection and refinement, literature search, study selection, study quality assessment, data extraction, evidence synthesis, GRADE profiling, recommendation drafting, Delphi survey (as needed), recommendation voting, and various aspects of manuscript development.
  3. Provide structured mentorship and guidance to junior methodologists, with an emphasis on skills development, progressive responsibility, and professional growth. The SM will help cultivate a sustainable pipeline of future senior methodologists by supporting JMs in acquiring expertise across all phases of guideline development.
  4. Attend monthly GOC meetings and support progress updates on active guideline projects.
  5. As this position is considered a member of the AABIP-GOC, the SM will participate in vetting and selection of future guideline projects, should this process overlap with their term.

Qualifications:

Required:
  1. An advanced degree (MS, PhD) in a relevant field, such as biostatistics
  2. Expertise with quantitative and qualitative research methodology
  3. Extensive experience with methodology and guideline development, including leading and/or primary contribution to at least 3 previous projects.
  4. Proficiency with and access to relevant guideline software and tools for literature search, data extraction and synthesis, GRADE profiling.
Preferred:
  1. Clinical experience and medical background
Compensation:
  • This is a 1099 independent contractor position; compensation will be reported via Form 1099
  • Coauthorship on all guideline projects; author position can be negotiated based on various factors
