Structure

Once matched, we recommend that the mentee and mentor agree on a schedule that works best for both parties. The most important thing is to discuss your mutual expectations about time and communication at the start of the relationship, but monthly or quarterly contact is recommended. We will be sending out quarterly email reminders over the year to meet. Keep in mind that mentoring does not necessarily require large amounts of time, and mentees are encouraged to establish 1-3 objectives when meeting with their mentor to optimize the time. Suggested topics include:
  • Career planning
  • Job search
  • Professionalism in interventional pulmonology
  • Work-life balance
  • Research and academic projects
  • Applying for IP fellowship for pulmonary/critical care fellows
  • Management and leadership strategies
  • Clinical skill development
  • Facilitation of professional connections, networking, or sponsorship
