AABIP is seeking applications for the position of Co-Chair for the IP Fellows Bootcamp and Mid-Year Advanced Bronchoscopy and Thoracoscopy Course. This is a four-year leadership commitment beginning with the 2027 course cycle. Selected applicants will begin participating in planning activities in October 2026, serving as Co-Chair for two years, followed by two years as Course Chair.

In partnership with the Course Chair, the Co-Chair provides educational leadership for the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of both programs. This leadership role offers the opportunity to mentor the next generation of Interventional Pulmonologists while contributing to one of AABIP's flagship educational programs.

The IP Fellows Bootcamp introduces incoming Interventional Pulmonary fellows to procedures commonly performed during fellowship while providing a forum for education, research collaboration, professional networking, and peer engagement. The Mid-Year Advanced Bronchoscopy and Thoracoscopy Course focuses on advanced rigid bronchoscopy (complex stenting and ablation-assisted rigid debulking) and thoracoscopy using cadaveric models. The course exposes fellows to advanced techniques and technologies that may not be available at their home institutions while showcasing diverse faculty approaches to these procedures.

• Online standardized educational content completed prior to the live event
• Two day event of hands-on sessions

• Pre and post hands-on testing for rigid bronchoscopy and pleuroscopy

Future course locations will be determined by AABIP.

Expected Attendance: Approximately 50 Interventional Pulmonary fellows

Time Commitment: Approximately 1-2 hours per week, 80-100 hours/year

The Course Chair and Co-Chair serve on behalf of the AABIP Education Committee and provide leadership for the educational planning and execution of the programs in alignment with the Committee's goals and direction. Working collaboratively with the Program Support Team, they are responsible for the following:

• Provide educational leadership for the planning and execution of the IP Fellows Bootcamp and Mid-Year Course.
• Lead the ongoing refinement and enhancement of the educational program.
• Develop educational stations, instructional requirements, and course flow.
• Identify the equipment, accessories, models, and educational resources required to support the educational objectives of the course.
• Provide equipment and resource requirements according to established planning timelines to support educational grants, sponsorship opportunities, procurement, and logistics.
• Evaluate participant and faculty feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement while maintaining the core educational objectives of the programs.

• Recruit, develop, and mentor faculty, while supporting faculty succession and continuity.
• Assign faculty roles and responsibilities.
• Lead the faculty orientation and promote consistency in the educational experience across all course activities.

• Collaborate with the AABIP Director of Operations to plan the course within the approved budget.
• Consider budget and resource implications when making programmatic recommendations.
• Communicate proposed programmatic changes that may impact the approved budget.

• Review participant roster and registration updates.
• Review participant information and communicate any program-specific considerations (e.g., group assignments, prerequisites, or session placement).
• Provide program content and materials needed for participant communications and onsite materials.

• Provide physician leadership throughout the course to support successful program execution.
• Be available to address programmatic questions and make timely decisions as needed during the course.
• Monitor the educational program and participant experience, communicating operational needs and priorities to support successful course execution.
• Serve as the primary physician leader and educational representative throughout the event.

• Plan and execute the welcome reception and other course-related social events.
• Provide programmatic guidance and timely decisions regarding social events as needed.
• Participate in onsite coordination for course-related social events, as appropriate.

• Lead post-course faculty debrief to evaluate outcomes and establish priorities for future courses.
• Review course outcomes and participant feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Recommend enhancements to the curriculum, educational format, faculty development, and overall participant experience.

Eligibility

Eligibility: Candidates should be at least 3 years out of IP fellowship, engaged in PCCM and IP fellows' education and training, and engaged in simulation-based learning environments. 

• Prior experience in simulation-based education (describe role, institution, and duration of involvement).
• Demonstrated interest in curriculum development and medical education.
• Experience designing and/or leading educational programs, simulation curricula, or procedural training courses.

Selection Timeline: Final co-chair selections will be announced in late-September 2026.

• Attend planning meetings for the 2027 Mid-Year Course and July 2027 Bootcamp.
• Serve as a co-chair for the 2027 Mid-Year Course and July 2027 Bootcamp.
• Be available to assume a leadership role for the July 2028 Bootcamp, with final chair assignments determined by the committee based on performance, engagement, and program needs.
