CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Physician Assistant: • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP. • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State.
Nurse Practitioner: • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State. • Certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (Inpatient/procedural) • Certification as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner (Outpatient/clinic) • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES An Interventional Pulmonology Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with a Physician/ group of consulting providers that specialize in the management of complex airway and pleural diseases. Interventional Pulmonology offers advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to aid in the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the lung. In general, the Advanced Practice Provider exercises autonomy in medical decision-making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to adult patients with a variety of pulmonary disorders. This may include managing patients with complex, acute, critical and chronic pulmonary conditions. In addition, the individual collects and assists in the interpretation of reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests, radiographic procedures and clinical studies. The position typically analyzes, compares and evaluates various courses of action and has the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.
The primary work setting for a position in Interventional Pulmonology is variable and could include both inpatient and outpatient clinical work.
Inpatient clinical work can include: • Inpatient consultation and follow up • Presenting patients at multidisciplinary tumor board discussions • Pre-procedure H&Ps and consents • Independently preforming inpatient pleural and airway procedures • Assisting in bronchoscopic procedures • Participates in procedure based clinical trials • Patient education Outpatient clinical work can include: • New patient and return clinic visit consultations • Pre-procedure/Pre-op clinic evaluation • Outpatient thoracentesis clinic – evaluates and preforms procedure • Lung cancer screening/ Pulmonary nodule program • Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction program • Research/ Database collection • Patient education
Required Qualifications • ACLS and BLS certification • Current DEA registration required • Minimum 2 years experienced as an Advanced Practice Provider • Successful completion of hospital credentialing and privileging
Desired Qualifications • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team is required. • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are required. • Experience in preforming and/or assisting in pulmonary procedures is desired. • 5 years general Pulmonary, ICU, IR or Thoracic surgery experience strongly preferred. • Understand billing and coding from APP standpoint in regulation with state guidelines
