2024 NOMINATIONS

The AABIP Board of Directors and the Executive Committee is the governing body that directs the affairs of the organization and by extension, the field of Interventional Pulmonology. It is therefore extremely important that the election process enables the selection of capable, thoughtful, committed and highly motivated individuals who seek to advance the mission of the AABIP. 


The Board of Directors of the AABIP is seeking nominations for the following positions:

  • Secretary-Treasurer of the AABIP
  • Board of Directors of the AABIP
Applications packets must be complete by 1800hrs CST on 02/09/2024 to be considered. All submissions are final and cannot be modified after 02/09/2024.

The basic eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Candidates must be active members of the AABIP in good standing. This includes adherence to the association's code of ethics, timely payment of dues, and consistent participation in AABIP activities and events.
  • Candidates should be at least 4 years out from their last training program.
  • Candidates should have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in either the United States or Canada.
  • Candidates should have more than 70% of their professional efforts directed to clinical practice, research, or clinical education. Candidates employed by pharmaceutical, or device companies are not eligible.
  • To run for Secretary Treasurer, the candidate must have served at least one term on the AABIP Board of Directors.

The positions are for 2-year terms beginning in August 2024. If elected, the members of the Board of Directors shall serve for an initial term of two years, renewable for one term by the BOD.  No individual is permitted to serve on the AABIP BOD for more than two consecutive terms, unless elected to the post of Secretary-Treasurer. At the completion of the initial 2-year cycle, the individual elected to the Secretary-Treasurer position is expected to progress to the Vice-president position for two years and then to President for two years and then finally an additional two years as Past President of the AABIP.

Responsibilities:

  • The property, business, and affairs of the association shall be managed by or under the direction of the Board of Directors.
  • The Board of Directors are required to attend monthly conference calls and two annual meetings, including the annual conference.
  • To conduct the business of the organization, Board of Directors should be available and willing to commit at least 4 hours per week.
  • The Secretary-Treasurer position is required to attend additional Executive Committee meetings in addition to the regular BOD duties and should be available and willing to commit at least 10 hours per week to AABIP business.

Time Commitments:

The AABIP is an organization that primarily depends on the efforts and dedication of its all-volunteer committees, Board of Directors, and Executive Officers. The multiple projects and missions of the AABIP require a significant time commitment from those who choose to serve. The time commitments typically required are listed below in hrs./week:

Submitting a Nomination

Below, click submit nomination to complete the Nomination form. If nominating someone else, please ensure you have contacted the individual you are nominating and confirmed that they indicated a willingness to complete the application process by the deadlines listed, and a willingness to serve if elected. Self-nominations are welcome. Those self-nominating, are also required to complete the application process listed below. The AABIP is particularly committed to diversity and inclusion. Submitting an Application

All nominees are required to submit:
  1. Biographical sketch or CV,
  2. Completed AABIP Election Questionnaire (preview questionnaire),
  3. Completed AABIP conflict of interest form (preview AABIP COI),
  4. A brief self-introduction (300 word maximum) that will be placed on the AABIP election website, if qualified to be placed on the ballot.
  5. A recent headshot that will be placed on the AABIP election website, if qualified to be placed on the ballot.

Review Process

Completed applications are reviewed by the Nominating Committee and subsequently presented to the current AABIP Board of Directors, who review and assess each candidate’s potential to enhance the organizational mission.  Applicants selected by the AABIP BOD are then presented to the active voting AABIP general membership as candidates for election. Winners of the elections are then presented to the Board of Directors and Executive Board for final approval.
