Congratulations, Dr. Hira Irfan on being awarded the inaugural AABIP DIU Travel/Education Grant!

The American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP) is thrilled to announce Dr. Hira Irfan of the University of Cincinnati as the recipient of the inaugural AABIP DIU Travel/Education Grant. This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Irfan's outstanding commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion within the field of interventional pulmonology. This award will support Dr. Irfan's participation in the AABIP Annual Conference, providing her with invaluable opportunities for professional development and collaboration with fellow experts.

 In addition, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Jean Reinoso from the University of Florida and respiratory therapist Dawn Sisko from the Cleveland Clinic, OH, have been awarded complimentary registrations to the AABIP annual conference. Their exceptional applications and commitment to the field are highly commendable, and we are excited to support their continued professional growth.

Activity: AABIP DIU Travel/Education Grant

The AABIP Diversity, Inclusion and Unity (DIU) Committee is offering one travel/education grant to the 2024 AABIP Annual Conference which will cover the registration fee, travel, hotel and meal expenses for the conference. 


Roles and Responsibilities:

The applicant will submit a specific DIU project proposal that will be completed in 2024 in partnership with the DIU committee, Statement of Interest, CV and a letter of support from their institution's Division Chair, Supervisor or Mentor.

Criteria for Selection:

The AABIP Diversity, Inclusion and Unity Committee is committed to an organizational culture of excellence, equitable representation, diversity, and inclusion. We encourage applications from physicians in training or within the first 5 years s/p training (adult and pediatric advanced bronchoscopists and interventional pulmonologists) and non-physician members in good standing representing diverse ethnicities, ages, races, nationalities, genders, specialties, and hospital settings to apply for the travel/ education grant for 2024.

Required Documents:
  1. DIU project proposal to be carried out to completion in partnership with DIU Committee Mentorship.
    • Proposals must include project title, description, objectives/goals, and expected outcome
  2. Statement of Interest (with a pledge of acknowledgement & affirmation of the time commitment to the project and that if the position is granted, you will have sufficient availability for work on project proposal).
  3. Letter of Support from your institution's Division Chair, Supervisor or Mentor.
  4. Curriculum Vitae
